What I'm seeing in these spam emails, when I examine the mail header, is that the spammer appears to be spoofing the mail network in a really odd way. It comes with a bunch of really, really cool plug-ins, one of which is "SpamAssassin", which is by far the best spam filter I've come across. So scammers who use fake web links are trivially easy to spot, because everything renders in plaintext.Ģ.

To access my email, I use a combination of devices, one of which is a PC that runs Linux Mint and uses the "Claws-Mail" email client.

I have several email accounts, including a couple linked to a Domain I have registered, plus two Hotmail accounts. Sorry this is such a long post, but there's a lot of relevant detail here.īefore I get to the details of that, I might just need to explain my email setup. However, I've just recently noticed a spike in traffic that comes through to my desktop mail client, where it is correctly being identified as spam and filtered.

For the most part, Microsoft have done a pretty good job of defending and against spammers. Like, I suspect, pretty much everyone with a Hotmail account, I get spam.
